    About the Book :
    The book “Right to Privacy : National and International Scenario” is intended to serve as a broad introduction to right to privacy under constitutional law and human rights jurisprudence. This book outlines the concept and origin of privacy law as it is applied today in various jurisdictions around the world. The importance of privacy can be related to the fact that privacy has a very close connection with human dignity, freedom and independence of the individual and it is more and more challenged in the age of the rapid technological development of the information society.

    Considering the importance of right to privacy and relevance of subject for the students, academicians, lawyers and judicial officers, an effort has been made to write this book giving an overview of the concept of right to privacy especially with reference to the Indian conditions.

    This book is divided into six chapters. Chapter I introduces the topic and throws light on the importance of the topic. Chapter II examines the meaning, definition, importance and function of the concept of privacy. Chapter III traces the historical background and cross-cultural perspective of the right to privacy as a legal right. Chapter IV evaluates the status of the right to privacy under international human rights law. The Indian law like the English law does not recognize the constitutional right to privacy, but provides remedies against invasion of privacy under the general law. It is only recently that the Supreme Court has elevated it to the status of fundamental right implicit in Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. But as we will see, this Constitutional right to privacy is an evolving right and only some of its various dimensions have been recognized by the apex Court. Chapter V, therefore, attempts to sketch the judicial Padyatra in the area of privacy right and highlight the emerging dimensions of this right in the context of surveillance, sexual abuse, phone-tapping, press, health, etc. The study closes with Chapter VI, which deals with Constitutional Jurisprudence on Privacy and limits to privacy.

    About the Author
    Dr. Ramesh Kumar has completed D.Phil in Law from University of Allahabad, Allahabad (U.P.). He has completed his LL.M and LL.B from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (U.P.). He is UGC NET qualified in Law. Dr. Kumar is currently working in capacity of Head of Department, School of Law, Christ (Deemed to be University) Delhi NCR Campus, Ghaziabad (U.P.). He has teaching, research and administrative experiences of more than eleven years in institutes of notable repute. He has done distance learning Course, from World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on Intellectual Property. He has written several research articles, presented papers, attended and organized many national and international seminars, workshops, faculty development programmes, national moot court competitions and Legal awareness Camps. He is also the member of Indian Society of International Law, All India Law Teacher Congress, Indian National Bar Association, Editorial Board Member of Vinobha Bhave Law Journal, Hazaribagh University, Amity Law Journal, Dubai and Associate Editor of Jims Journal of Law.
