About the Book
The present book has taken into account primarily the aspects of regionalism in India. Undoubtedly, regionalism has been a major factor in Indian politics. Almost in every part of Indian society, the demon of regionalism has occasionally come up with the demand for a separate state. In fact, many such moves have also been successful. But it is a matter of great concern that we should be careful about considering the demands for a separate state. If the demands are legitimate and genuine, only then the issues should be taken up by the government for consideration. The book further discusses the Gorkhaland issue. It was and is still a burning issue for the State government and the Central government. Much before the period of independence, the issue of Gorkhaland is in the air. Sometimes, the demand and the agitation has been very serious. However, in the present book, a modest attempt has been made to analyse the issues of regionalism and Gorkhaland.
Contents : The Concept of Regionalism; Impact of Regionalism; Regionalism and Democratic Governance; Regionalism and Federal Governance; The Phase of Transitional Politics; Regionalism in India; Gorkha National Liberation Front Movement : A Brief Historical Overview; Origins of the Movement; Grant of Citizenship; Summary and Conclusion.
