About the Book
In India, in recent years there is a significant increase in the number of women entrepreneurs. The high literacy rate among women is the major reason for this. The role of women in the social development of the country especially in a State like Kerala is very crucial. This has led to a substantial development in entrepreneurship among women. They provide employment to a large number of skilled and unskilled people. However, women’s entrepreneurship is dominated by the unorganized sector which provides different goods and services highly useful for their day-to-day life. In generating employment opportunities for educated talented women, the role of women entrepreneurship is significant. Even though these entrepreneurs play very crucial in the development of the country, they are not supported by the Government in any way. These women entrepreneurs are exploited by intermediaries in the marketing of their products. These women entrepreneurs develop and provide creative products and services to fulfill the current needs of customers. In most cases, they run the units with the help of their own funds only. The financial agencies are very reluctant in providing funds for their operation. Of course, women entrepreneurs in the unorganized sector face different problems. Still, in our country, the unorganized sector of women entrepreneurs has very good potential in different entrepreneurial activities. Hence, it is highly relevant to identify the motivational factors of women entrepreneurs, their issues and challenges and prospects for women entrepreneurship in the unorganized sector. It is against this background the authors have attempted to fulfill this.
The book comprises seven chapters including an introduction and summing up. It is hoped that the book will be useful to entrepreneurs in the unorganized sector especially women entrepreneurs, policymakers, academicians and researchers in commerce, economics and management studies and other stakeholders.
